The Cure concert documentary set for summer release
Director Tim Pope has confirmed The Cure‘s 2018 Hyde Park concert film will be released this summer.
The director announced plans for a documentary about the band revolving around their 40th anniversary. Just last month Pope teased a photo fans speculate is from the film, showing what appears to be a silhouette of frontman Robert Smith.

The Cure marked their 40th anniversary in 2017 with a massive concert at London’s Hyde Park. The concert also saw performances from Interpol, Slowdive, Ride, Goldfrapp, Editors and the Twilight Sad.
Now, the film focusing on the concert is set to be released this summer.
“Yes, it’s true what Robert has announced – that our film of Hyde Park will hit cinemas in early summer,” Pope wrote on Twitter.
Yes, it’s true what Robert has announced – that our film of Hyde Park will hit cinemas in early summer. A global release, it marks the first time to see The Cure on the big screen since ‘Orange.’ I shot it in groovy 4K and we mixed at Abbey Road in glorious 5:1 surround sound. pic.twitter.com/VhNaYdBWyf

Pope previously said the film will be led by Smith as a chronological telling of the band’s history from the 1970s to now.
The director also explained the documentary will include never before seen material from Smith’s personal collection, including interviews, bootleg footage and rare performances.
The Cure are also currently working on their first new album in 10 years.
