There’s been a huge ongoing debate for god knows how long about whether or not rock is dead, but the Cure are here to show it isn’t.
Following the band’s set at the Glastonbury Festival, an Edinburgh guitar retailer is saying the band’s performance has shot guitar sales up astronomically.
According to a report from The National, guitarguitar say their guitar sales jumped 16 percent following the Cure’s recent headlining set at Glastonbury. Their online sales also saw a 20 percent boost from visitors aged 18 to 24.
Surely this could just be a coincidence, but the report also shows website searches for Schecter Guitars, which members Robert Smith and Simon Gallup use, increased by a whopping 55 percent.
“The world is a very different place from what it was when the first Glastonbury Festival took place in 1970,” said guitarguitar co-founder Graham Bell. “But 49 years later it’s amazing to see that people continue to be inspired by their musical heroes and it makes us proud that we’re able to give them everything they need to emulate their favourite musicians.”

In other news, the Cure are hosting their own one-day festival called Pasadena Daydream. The festival will take place in California at the Rose Bowl Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The festival’s lineup is being curated by Smith and features an impressive array of artists. In addition to the Cure’s headlining slot, the band will welcome Pixies, Deftones, Mogwai, Chelsea Wolfe, Throwing Muses, the Twilight Sad, Emma Ruth Rundle, the Joy Formidable and Kaelan Mikla to the stage.
