The Purge series brought an entirely new idea to the world of horror films and through several instalments of the film series we’ve seen a lot of changes to how the idea developed in the fictional world.
Now, it looks like we’re finding out the title of the next film coming our way and based on the title, the Purge could be a regular part of daily life in the movies.
The new film is scheduled for a July 10, 2020 release but will likely be moved over the mass cancellations taking place due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Everardo Gout (Nat Geo’s Mars, Luke Cage) is directing the fifth instalment while writing is coming from franchise creator James DeMonaco. Leven Rambin, who led the second season of HBO’s “True Detective,” will star alongside Will Patton, Cassidy Freeman, Ana de la Reguera and Tenoch Huerta.
THR reporter Cris Parker broke the news and is speculating as to what the title could mean. According to him, we could be seeing The Purge as a regular part of daily life during the new film.
In case you didn’t know, the premise behind the series is that for a 12-hour period once a year, all crime including murder, rape, theft and everything else is completely legal.

Sources told THR the film “takes the Purge out of its usual metropolitan setting while still dealing with class and race issues in the way the previous films have.”
Recently, people in Louisiana got a taste of The Purge in real life.
Police in Crowley, Louisiana recently used the film’s siren sound to signal to residents that their curfew hours were beginning. If you’ve seen the movies, you know the siren marks the beginning of the Purge.
Between 9 PM and 6 AM every day, the city is restricting residents to stay inside their home due to the coronavirus.
Several videos showed the police using the siren. The police department is receiving hundreds of complaints about it and over 500 comments on their Facebook post about the siren. Police in the area were initially saying a different siren than their typical police horns would be announcing curfew hours.
According to KATC, Crowley Police chief Jimmy Broussard says he had no idea the distinct siren noise was used in a horror film and doesn’t plan on using a siren going forward.
