the ghost inside

The Ghost Inside continue time and again to prove that no matter how hard they get knocked down, they are always coming back swinging harder than ever. With Nov. 19 marking four years since their tragic bus accident, they released a live music video for “Mercy.”

The riff-heavy track comes from their latest release, 2014’s Dear Youth. “Mercy” is the perfect song to highlight their return as powerful lyrics boast throughout but perhaps the most inspiring lyric? “Life swings hard but I’m swinging harder.” No other band knows this better than the Ghost Inside.

The new video was first shared on their Instagram page with a brief statement.

In TGI world, we have come to call November 19 our re-birthday. Today, we celebrate by sharing a live music video of “Mercy” from our show this summer in Los Angeles. We want to honor the drivers Greg and Stephen that lost their lives, and say thank you to all of our loved ones for their unconditional support. To every single person that supports this band in any way, there are really no words to describe how you make us feel. Every kind word, donation, tattoo, comment, or even just a listen to a song, has carried us from the lowest moment of our lives through to today. We owe you a debt that can never be repaid, but we will try our best to make you proud. Together, all of us, we are limitless and unbreakable. See you in 2020.

The live video was shot during their return to stage for the first time since the accident. This was their only live show in 2019, playing almost 20 songs during their set. Watch the new live video below.

More on the Ghost Inside

The bus accident took place outside of El Paso, Texas, bringing a handful of trials and tribulations for the band. Their drummer, Andrew Tkaczyk revealed a couple of months after the accident that he had lost one of his legs.

Vocalist Jonathon Vigil also went through ankle fusion surgery after attempts to surgically correct the joint have failed.

The road to recovery hasn’t been an easy one for the band, but regardless they kept pushing forward but in April of 2018, they had their first practice. The band live-streamed on Facebook as they were setting up.

Bassist Jim Riley explained they wouldn’t show the actual rehearsal because “Lord only knows what it’s going to sound like.”

Guitarist Zach Johnson also shared a picture to his twitter of the first rehearsal saying “after 2+ years, this is the best feeling I’ve ever had. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Despite the circumstances the band has faced, they continually updated their fans as to the state of everyone and ensuring that they were only going to progress from here. After all the hard work and constant push, the Ghost Inside announced in February 2019 to “save the date” for July 13 in Los Angeles. The announcement later revealed to be the band’s first live show since the accident.

The demand for tickets resulted in a sell-out show within five minutes of their release, and the Ghost inside were set to perform at The Shrine.

The Ghost Inside did state that “by no means are we ready for physically or mentally to do any touring but July 13 proved to us that we are much more than capable of overcoming all of the challenges that have been placed in our way.” Perhaps we won’t get much more than a few one-off shows, they still have big plans in 2020 including recently announced London show, marking their only U.K. gig.

However, we can expect new music after they announced they have been working with A Day to Remember’s Jeremy McKinnon and that’s just as good as a full tour. Life swung hard at The Ghost Inside but for them, this is only the beginning.
