The Ghost Inside have finally revealed the details of their new album. The upcoming record will be the fifth studio album by the band and they’ve elected for it to be self-titled.

In addition to the record details, the Ghost Inside have also shared the first single called “Aftermath.”

The Ghost Inside haven’t had an easy time as a band. Just over four years ago the metalcore outfit were in a tragic bus accident that resulted in a number of fatalities, the loss of drummer Andrew Tkaczyk’s leg and many years of recovery.

We got our most recent update on the state of this new album back in February, when Tkaczyk revealed they had officially finished recording the record

Speaking with Craig Reynolds of Stray From The Path, Tkaczyk commented on the production and process of the new tunes on The Downbeat podcast.

“How it worked was, we first initially met up in Orlando at Jeremy [McKinnon‘s] studio and Andrew Wade’s studio to do these pre-pro demos. And that was in May of last year.”

“So he came there, and we all flew to Florida, and we spent two or three weeks in Orlando,” Tkaczyk says. “And then we took a little break because we had our comeback show to do in July, so we took a little break to prepare for that, and then went back to good old Belleville, New Jersey to finish and track the record.”

“I don’t think we’ve quite settled on a name yet. But the record is done, and literally as of last night we are listening to the mix, and all this stuff. So it’s super-exciting.”

Now we know what the record will be called, the tracklisting and how much it really means to the Ghost Inside.

This self-titled record is their fifth, and the first since 2014’s Dear Youth.

While that tragedy certainly influenced the record, it doesn’t define it.

“This isn’t about what happened to us,” bassist Jim Riley insists. “We won’t get lost in that one day. This is about our journey, our growth, and who we are.”

Speaking on the first single from the self-titled record, Riley reveals more about wanting to make the whole record relatable, but “Aftermath” was their chance to be very personal.

“We went into the writing process knowing full well that every song and every lyric would be influenced by what we’ve been through, but we tried our best for them to be relatable to everyone,” Riley says.

“With ‘Aftermath’ we let it be much more personal – this one is us telling OUR story. So when it was time to choose a first song to share with the world, it felt right for it to be ‘Aftermath.’ It allows anyone that listens into our world, but it also lets us put final punctuation on that chapter of our lives. ‘Aftermath’ is a total catharsis for us. We let it all out in the song so that it’s not bottled up inside us anymore and we can heal and move on, since after all, the beat goes on.”

Alongside the song, the Ghost Inside have released a powerful video featuring live-performance footage, fan tattoos and news footage from the accident. Watch it below.

“Aftermath” Lyrics

Running around in circles and I’m heading nowhere fast
Because more was said in silence then I could ever say in this song
So how many times must I beat my head against a wall
Before I finally breakthrough?

Is this where it ends? Can I be myself ever again?
The sights and sounds, the rise and the fall
It all played out with my life on pause
This is where it ends – I will not stay silent ever again
The sights and sounds, the rise and the fall
I’ll find my way after all

I don’t have it in me to sing of defeat
Triumph over tragedy

For all the demons that follow me around
It’s time I put you six feet deep underground
It’s time to put you six feet deep underground

This is where it ends – I will not stay silent ever again
The sights and sounds, the rise and the fall
I’ll find my way after all

The beat goes on
Yeah, and the beat goes on

Foundations that could never break
Was moving forward a mistake?
Or is that me pretending?
What happened to my happy ending?

Foundations that could never break
Was moving forward a mistake?
Or is that me pretending?
What happened to my happy ending?

Today I woke up to a brand new me
I know I can’t rewrite history
Yesterday is gone
And I’m ready for what tomorrow brings
