Horror film ‘The Lodge’ reminds some critics of ‘Hereditary’ at Sundance premiere

The Lodge looks like a good contender for the freakiest movie of 2019, and it is giving some people serious Hereditary vibes.

The filmmakers of the Australian horror hit Goodnight Mommy Severin Fail and Verokia Franz really pulled out all of the stops with this film. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival, and it is about a woman who is snowed in with her fiance’s two children when some seriously demoic events start to happen.

Film critics are tweeting that the film reminds them of last year’s Hereditary, which many people regard as one of the scariest horror movies of 2018.

“THE LODGE – Bone chilling slow burn – echoes of last year’s HEREDITARY are there, but this uniquely morbid family drama with religious furor maintains a precision that would make Hitch and Kubrick proud. Exceptional pacing, a frigid bit of horror that’s top notch,” critic Jason Gorber said on Twitter.

However, some critics didn’t think the comparisons were fair.

“THE (S)LODGE. Snowy atmosphere, a mini-Overlook Hotel and a nod to Carpenter’s THE THING, but this is one tedious film. Any HEREDITARY comparisons aren’t helping,” critic Joshua rothkopf wrote on Twitter.

Horror junkies reacted to hearing about the film with excitement on Twitter. Check out what they had to say below.
