The Maine pay tribute to Tom Petty with "Wildflowers" cover
The Maine honor Tom Petty and his influence on their post-Can’t Stop Won’t Stop material by sharing a previously released cover of the late rocker’s iconic “Wildflowers.” Hear the tune and see what the band have to say, below.

Posting frontman John O’Callaghan‘s version of the Tom Petty classic recorded for the Arizona emo group member’s idobi Radio show a few years back, the Maine talk the impact of the legendary artist who died last year at 66.
“We could have gone down so many different paths after releasing Can’t Stop Won’t Stop,” the band recall. “And it was listening to Tom Petty that started us down a path of exploring what else was out there for us musically.”
They continue, “They’re hasn’t been many artists that have influenced and shaped our love for making albums as much as [Tom Petty].” In fact, the group contend they may have broken up without Petty’s guiding creative force.
“Not too sure if we would still be a band if we went the other way and played it safe. Thanks for the inspiration.”
The new Petty tribute comes after the Maine recently discussed how they got their band name (with a little help from blink-182‘s Mark Hoppus) and announced another act for their 8123 Fest this January in downtown Phoenix.
