‘The Notebook’ is coming to Broadway as a musical

Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel the Notebook is about to hit the big stage. After becoming increasingly popular since its 2004 movie adaptation, the next step for the piece of pop culture is New York City.

According to Teen Vogue, the musical is still in its beginning stages. However, it is confirmed that Nicholas Sparks himself will be taking on a role as a producer.

The other people working on the Notebook’s trip to Broadway include book-writer Bekah Brunstetter and fellow producers Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch. Additionally, singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson will be in charge of the Notebook’s music and lyricism.

“When I was approached about working on the Notebook I had to excuse myself and go to the bathroom and cry and come back into the meeting,” Michaelson says in a story with Deadline. “I have loved the movie and the story for so many years now that the idea of turning it into a musical overwhelmed me.”

Additionally, Sparks has only positive things to say about his magnum opus’ future on Broadway.

“I am thrilled to work with Bekah and Ingrid in order to make the Notebook a reality on Broadway,” Sparks says. “They are amazingly talented, and obviously, the story is near and dear to my heart.”

If you have never seen the classic film, the story follows a wealthy Southern belle named Allie who falls in love with a working-class boy named Noah. Despite all odds, the pair learn that love always has a way of coming back again.
