'The Umbrella Academy' shares throwback photo ahead of season 2 filming
After Aidan Gallagher, who plays Number Five on the Netflix adaptation of Gerard Way’s comic series, posted an update to social media to let fans know that season 2 of The Umbrella Academy was underway, we’ve been anxiously awaiting any and all sneak peeks into the new season.
The series got our hopes up when they shared a set photo, but it looks like they’re reminiscing as much as we are.

Yesterday, Gallagher took to Instagram to reveal that “Season two starts now.”
Our beloved Number Five teased its renewal a while back, so we’re super excited to finally see filming get underway!
Now, The Umbrella Academy Instagram has a throwback photo of a few of our heroes on the set of season 1.

The photo was first shared by Emmy Raver who plays Allison Hargreeves (aka Number Three) in March. At the time, she captioned it “TRUCK. STOP. II #bts #theumbrellaacademy #ep7.”
We learned last month that the series based on the My Chemical Romance frontman and illustrator Gabriel Bá’s series racked up about 45 million viewers in the first four weeks it was available on the platform.
Outside of the show, Gallagher has been pretty busy with his music career. He just released his single “Time” with a MCR-inspired video.
Time-traveling assassin Number Five’s fascination with, well, time, inspired Gallagher on the set of the Netflix series.
“I wrote ‘TIME’ while I was filming season 1 of The Umbrella Academy in Toronto,” he says. “Because of the show, I spent a lot of thinking about the concept of time. The song really does speak to The Umbrella Academy plot but also about being young and looking into the future.”
If the contrasted, suit-donning imagery reminds you of Way circa 2002, then you’re spot on. Back in March, Gallagher officially launched his music career with “Blue Neon (Club Version)” on the infamous death day. At the time, he explained he chose the date because it was the “end of something important to [him] and now the beginning of something important to [him].”
MCR’s influence continues through “TIME,” which Gallagher says he’s “constantly inspired” by. The vocalist expresses he aims to write music as influential as the band, and he even channeled I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love-era vibes for the video.
