‘The Umbrella Academy’ season 2 “coming soon,” new photo teases

The Umbrella Academy season 2 filming is currently underway in Toronto. We’ve been getting glimpses of the cast with star Aidan Gallagher(aka Number 5) confirming production and creator Gerard Way first sharing the table read back in June.

Now, Netflix is giving us another look at the cast alongside a caption that’s getting us even more pumped for the pending release.

We’ve had a few sneak peeks on set as well, especially from Justin H. Min who plays Ben Hargreeves. Back in September, on The Umbrella Academy’s official Instagram page, Min is seen whispering about everyone else shooting right now. He then tells us he’s going to “give us a little BTS.”

Last weekend, Min posted another shot with some of his castmates and on-screen siblings—Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan. He also offered up an explantion for the missing Hargreeves, Gallagher and David Castañeda.

“Not to be sappy, but I’d die for them. Again. Cassie and Aidy, too. They were busy flirting on the other side of the table.”

Page, Raver-Lampman and Hopper also shared the image over the weekend, writing about the bonding they’ve been doing on-set. Now, Netflix utilized the same snap as well as an outtake to tease that the season is “coming soon.”

“Just some good eggs taking a family selfie. Umbrella Academy s2 is coming soon ☂️,” the post reads. While no exact timeframe or date is given, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it’s much sooner rather than later.

More on The Umbrella Academy

We recently learned that the series based on the My Chemical Romance frontman and illustrator Gabriel Bá’s comic racked up about 45 million viewers in the first four weeks it was available on the platform. With numbers like that, it’s no wonder it secured the No. 2. spot on most-streamed originals over the past year behind Stranger Things 3.

To put that into perspective, similar popular titles like Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Our Planet only raked in up to 25 million households viewing each respective show. Netflix considers a “view” when around 70% of the show’s runtime has been viewed.

As a result, it’s no wonder the series was renewed a little less than two months after its mid-February premiere. Last month, it was revealed we’d be meeting three non-comic characters in season 2 of the series.

The Netflix-adapted series made the announcement via their Instagram story, revealing that three new stars would be joining the show’s upcoming season.

Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood and Marin Ireland have joined the live-action superhero series alongside the return of Gallagher, Min, Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Robert Sheehan.

Arya will play Lila, “a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires.” Gatewood will play Raymond, “a born leader and devoted husband” with “the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone.” Meanwhile, Ireland will play Sissy, “a fearless, no-nonsense Texas mom who married young for all the wrong reasons.”
