We are just two days away from the highly-anticipated premiere of The Umbrella Academy season 2. In celebration of the forthcoming release, a sneak peek into the new season has been unveiled.

The last time we caught up with the Hargreeves was at the end of season 1 where they were obliterated to the moon and avoided the apocalypse by mere seconds. However, it looks like they are facing the repercussions of their choices in season 2.

Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) repeatedly warned his siblings about the risks of using his powers to evade Vanya (played by Ellen Page) and her 2019 apocalypse. As a result, the siblings have been scattered throughout time. More specifically, throughout the 1960s.

Now, Netflix is offering a first look into where exactly the Hargreeves ended up in season 2. On July 29, the opening scene for the new season was released. So far, from what we can see, the 1960s may not be too groovy for the super-human family.

The scene starts with Number Five touching down in Texas. While searching for his siblings, Number Five begins to witness the beginnings of the Cold War unfold in front of him. The scene depicts the Soviet Union and the United States carrying out their first attacks against each other.

As the scene continues on, more battles begin to break out in front of Number Five. Then, as Frank Sinatra begins to play, the rest of the Hargreeves emerge and begin taking part in the battles. Just before Number Five steps in to join the fights, however, he is pulled back into safety. The scene concludes with a powerful mushroom cloud appearing in the distance.

The action-packed scene truly prepares fans for what is to come from The Umbrella Academy season 2 and from what we know so far, it’s going to be massive.

So far, we know that the Hargreeves have traveled back in time to the 1960s. As well, in September, we were introduced to three non-comic additions: Texas housewife Sissy (Marin Ireland), Lila (Ritu Arya) and Raymond (Yusuf Gatewood). The new synopsis also teases “a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins” portrayed by Tom Sinclair, Kris Holden-Ried and Jason Bryden.

On July 8, Netflix dropped the first trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 2. The trailer also features a brand new song by My Chemical Romance frontman and TUA creator Gerard Way.

All 10 episodes of season 2 hit Netflix on July 31. You can see the official synopsis below and new photos here.

Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right—the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which—spoiler alert!—turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.
