Now, this latest teaser about the upcoming season may have just confirmed what’s in store for the Hargreeves siblings in the first episode.
Since the premiere of The Umbrella Academy season 2 back in July, not a whole lot of information about season 3 has been shared. Given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, some fans were worried that the series may become another Netflix show to be canceled in 2020.
Then, back in October, rumors began to swirl that production for season 3 of The Umbrella Academy is set to begin in February 2021. Earlier this month, Netflix finally confirmed that these rumors are true and production begins in about three months.
“Oh my god! We’re back! Again! It’s official. Production for S3 of The Umbrella Academy begins in February.”

Now, it looks like the upcoming season’s first teaser may have just confirmed what’s in store for the Hargreeves siblings. On Monday, showrunner Steve Blackman gave TUA fans the first look at one of the season 3 scripts. The first episode of the upcoming season is called “Meet The Family.”

The episode’s title hints that the Hargreeves are in for quite the family reunion in season 3. For those that remember, season 2 ended up on a cliffhanger we will never forget. As we saw in the season’s final moments, the Hargreeves siblings arrived back in the “present time,” but soon learned things aren’t quite what they seem. Instead of starting The Umbrella Academy, Sir Reginald Hargreeves went on to create The Sparrow Academy.
The latter academy features all-new members from the original 43 children born on Oct. 1, 1989. Although Ben Hargreeves sacrificed himself in season 2, Justin H. Min is back as a member of the Sparrows. This new development means that the Hargreeves siblings as we know them may not actually exist in the world of season 3.
By the looks of the title, episode 1 of the upcoming season may be full of unexpected encounters, confusion and potentially Ben Hargreeves as we’ve never seen before.
The Sparrow Academy is part of the original comics created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba. However, they don’t appear until the end of the third volume. Blackman previously explained why they decided to incorporate The Sparrow Academy into the show early.
“I have a wonderful collaboration with Gerard and we talk a lot about where he wants to go with the different volumes of the comics,” he said. “I had an idea for the end of this season, a little similar to what the Sparrows were. When I heard he was doing the Sparrows, I got super excited.”
Alternative Press recently interviewed Justin H. Min who revealed some secrets about The Sparrow Academy and what’s in store for season 3.
