Earlier this week, The Umbrella Academy finally introduced the actors joining the cast of season 3 as members of the Sparrow Academy.

Now, it looks like the recent announcement has some fans theorizing season 3 may include a cameo from My Chemical Romance‘s, and TUA co-creator, Gerard Way.

For those of you that are completely unaware, MCR frontman Gerard Way co-created The Umbrella Academy comic book series alongside Gabriel Ba. Since the TV adaptation premiered on Netflix back in 2019, fans have continuously hoped that Way would make an appearance in the series.

Now, some fans think that season 3 may finally be when the MCR frontman makes a cameo in the Netflix show. The fan theories emerged earlier this week after The Umbrella Academy finally introduced the members of the Sparrow Academy.

To start, “honest, virtuous and demanding” No. 1 or Marcus is being portrayed by Justin Cornell. As well, TUA fans will be pleased to see that Justin H. Min‘s Ben Hargreeves is officially back in season 3. This time around, however, he’s returning as No. 2 in the Sparrow Academy and isn’t the same character we fell in love with in previous seasons.

Britne Oldford is portraying Fei, No. 3, while Jake Epstein is taking on the role of Alphonso, No. 4, who has “a caustic and biting sense of humor.” Some fans many recognize Epstein for his long on-screen portrayal as Craig Manning on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

The Sparrow Academy’s “romantic dreamer” No. 5, Sloane, is being played by Genesis Rodriguez and Cazzie David is “loner” Jayme, No. 6. However, the Sparrow Academy’s No. 7 is catching a lot of people’s attention. The final member of the academy is Christopher, an “existential dread-inducing psykronium cube.”

It’s the final member of the Sparrow Academy, Christopher, that has sparked these new fan theories about a possible cameo from Way. Currently, the actor behind this mysterious cube is unknown. However, Deadline‘s description of No. 7 is raising some eyebrows.

“Christopher is a telekinetic cube of unknown origin,” Deadline says. “He can turn the room freezing cold and induce paralyzing fear. He acts as the Sparrows’ consulted oracle who hands out incredible advice and serves as the family mediator. Trustworthy, loyal, and is treated by the Sparrows like any other sibling, Christopher is a force to be reckoned with.”

According to Deadline, the character will have a voice. This has caused fans to theorize that Christopher may be voiced by Gerard Way. Although nothing has been confirmed, this would be a great opportunity for Way to finally make his long-awaited cameo. This is especially true since fans are calling No. 7 the most “Gerard Way character ever.”

Along with the fresh faces, the original lead cast of The Umbrella Academy is also returning for season 3. Last year, there was some speculation that Elliot Page may not reprise their role as Vanya Hargreeves. However, those rumors were quickly squashed by the streaming service.

More on The Umbrella Academy season 3:

Back in October, rumors swirled that production for season 3 of The Umbrella Academy was set to begin in February of this year. Finally, in November, Netflix confirmed that these rumors are true and production begins sometime next month.

Shortly following this, showrunner Steve Blackman gave a major clue into what fans can expect from season 3. In late November, Blackman shared an exclusive look at a new TUA script. The first episode of season 3 is called “Meet The Family,” seemingly confirming that that season 2 cliffhanger will be played out in the new episodes.

For those of you that need a refresh, season 2 ended on quite an unforgettable note. As we saw in the season’s final moments, the Hargreeves siblings arrived back in the “present time,” but soon learned that things aren’t what they seem. As it turns out, rather than starting The Umbrella Academy, Sir Reginald Hargreeves went on to create the Sparrow Academy.

Originally, the Sparrow Academy don’t appear until the end of the series’ third volume. However, Blackman previously explained why they decided to incorporate the Sparrow Academy into the show early.

“I have a wonderful collaboration with Gerard and we talk a lot about where he wants to go with the different volumes of the comics,” he said. “I had an idea for the end of this season, a little similar to what the Sparrows were. When I heard he was doing the Sparrows, I got super excited.”

At this time, The Umbrella Academy season 3 does not have a release date.

Last year, Alternative Press interviewed Justin H. Min who revealed some secrets about the Sparrow Academy and what’s in store for season 3.
