‘Tiger King’ season 2 might be happening but not everyone is returning

It looks like another season of Tiger King may be heading to Netflix.

According to a new report, Netflix has secured the rights for a second season on its streaming service. However, not all of the stars are returning for the new episodes.

The first season of Tiger King captivated millions when it premiered on Netflix back in March. Now, Joe Exotic and company are reportedly returning for another season.

According to The Sun, a follow-up season to the hit docuseries is reportedly in the works at Netflix. As well, Exotic, Dillon Passage and Jeff Lowe have all vowed to return for the new episodes. Exotic reportedly wants to use the second season to clear his name.

Exotic is currently serving 22 years in prison for a murder-for-hire plot. He was convicted of hiring a hitman to kill Carole Baskin. He also has more than a dozen wildlife violations including the killings of five tigers.

The Sun‘s report also says that Baskin is asking for “a seven-figure sum” to return for season 2. According to the newspaper’s source, Baskin is asking for a sum of around $1 million. She apparently wants to put the money into her Big Cat Rescue in Tampa.

According to the Radio Times, however, Baskin has no desire to return for a second season. She tells the outlet that she felt deceived by the show and that no amount of money would make her come back for more episodes.

“There is no amount of money that would cause me to trust the producers again after their sick betrayal of the animals and me,” she says. “I wasn’t paid the first time around, although several people have come forward saying they were paid. That violates the very nature of a documentary along with so many other things that were staged and taken out of context.”

Last week, Baskin was hit with a lawsuit by her former husband Don Lewis’ family. Lewis’ family is suing Baskin for answers regarding his disappearance. They are also offering a $100,000 reward for those who have information regarding the case.

Lewis vanished in 1997 a day before a scheduled trip to Costa Rica. He was never found and declared legally dead in 2002.

Baskin’s latest lawsuit isn’t the first within the Tiger King franchise. Baskin previously sued Exotic for trademark and copyright infringement and won the $1 million civil case against him. When Exotic failed to pay her in the lawsuits, however, Baskin won control of his zoo in June.

Tiger King and Netflix are also facing a copyright lawsuit. Hollywood Weekly Magazine claims it trademarked the “Tiger King” phrase over seven years ago. Now, the magazine is suing the streaming platform for using the phrase.
