Tim Burton almost produced a 'Goosebumps' movie

There’s no secret that R.L. Stine and Tim Burton were responsible for some of our greatest nightmares as kids, and it appears that the duo almost teamed up for a film.

The news comes from a new interview with Cinema Blend, where Stine shared that he and the mastermind behind films like Edward Scissorhands and A Nightmare Before Christmas almost teamed up for a Goosebumps movie.

During the interview, Stine revealed that he and Burton actually had a deal for Burton to produce a Goosebumps film at the height of the series success, going so far as to even having a meeting on what the tale should be about:

“We had a movie deal to do a Goosebumps movie, and I can’t tell you what year it was. It was like at the height of Goosebumps, back in ’94, ’95, around there, and we actually had a deal with Fox to do a movie, and Tim Burton who was going to be the producer,” Stine told the site. “We had a big meeting, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’ll be great. Tim Burton and Goosebumps. It’ll be great.’ And we had a nice meeting with him, and we had a great time and we talked about what we should do, and then nothing happened. Sort of a typical story out there, right?”

Unfortunately, a Burton-produced Goosebumps flick just wasn’t in the cards, as Burton got involved with a different project:

“He got involved in some Superman project that also never happened. He was going to do Superman, and then we never heard from him again. That was the end of it. And 20 years later we got a movie,” Stine shared. “I think we were going to do a new story, but use some of the elements. But we never got that far, you know? It’s very strange. I don’t know. People couldn’t figure out for a long time which story to do, what should we do. And then Goosebumps wasn’t as popular, and then it came back.”

Yeah, we’re pretty devastated that we never got this dream collaboration.

While we didn’t get to see the dream collab of our childhood, we still got some pretty amazing moments from the show when it was on the air.

The future of Goosebumps:

Readers beware, you’re still in for a scare.

Stine, as you might recall when you were younger, was not only responsible for the mega-creepy Goosebumps TV mini-series, but the books as well.

We were totally terrified as kids of the monsters he created in his children’s horror book series, and it appears that Stine isn’t done creating nightmares for today’s youth.

In a recent interview with Medium, Stine discussed his lengthy career and when asked if he ever planned on putting up his briefcase, Stine revealed that he’s actually signed on to do six more Goosebumps books.

“I don’t think authors retire,” Stine said. “I think of Robert B. Parker, who just dropped dead on the keyboard. I think that’s the way to go. Anyway, I just signed on to do six more Goosebumps books.”

Stine then joked, “Maybe some of them will be posthumous, I don’t know.”

We’re pretty stoked that he’s making new books, and we can’t help but wonder if maybe Tim Burton wouldn’t mind producing one of these new ones?
