Variety reports that this Willy Wonka prequel has been in the pipeline for years. The Charlie And The Chocolate Factory follow up is officially titled Wonka and is slated to arrive on Mar. 17, 2023. For now, most plot details are unknown.

However, we do know that the film will center around Willy Wonka’s early days prior to operating his factory of confectionery creations. As well, it’s also uncertain if any familiar characters from the Roald Dahl story including the Oompa Loompas will make an appearance in the prequel.

Despite this, Warner Bros. is reportedly considering Timothée Chalamet or Tom Holland to play a young Willy Wonka in the prequel. Warner Bros. has not offered the coveted starring role to any actor just yet. Nevertheless, it makes sense that Warner Bros. is reportedly eyeing Chalamet and Holland since they are two of the biggest actors under the age of 30 right now.

Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller were reportedly being considered for the starring role in 2018. However, those rumors seemed to have fizzled out over the years.

So far, the story of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory has been retold in two blockbuster films. In the 1970s, Gene Wilder starred in the original film while Johnny Depp portrayed Willy Wonka in Tim Burton’s 2005 remake.

As it turns out, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was once considered for the role of Willy Wonka in the 2005 adaptation. However, Burton ultimately decided to reunite with long-time collaborator Johnny Depp for the film.

Naturally, the internet has a lot of thoughts about the Wonka casting rumors.
