Angels & Airwaves’ new LP has truly been years in the making. Back in 2014, the band dropped The Dream Walker which includes the hits “Tunnels,” “Kiss With A Spell” and “Tremors” among others.

Since then, they’ve gone on to release a few EPs – 2015’s …Of Nightmares, 2016’s Chasing Shadows and 2017’s We Don’t Need to Whisper Acoustic. In 2019, they returned with two singles “Rebel Girl” and “Kiss & Tell” which were soon followed up by 2020’s “All That’s Left Is Love.”

Finally, at the start of 2021, Angels & Airwaves confirmed they were back in the studio recording their next album. In a lengthy statement, Angels & Airwaves shared that they hope to put out their new LP sometime this spring. They also said they plan to play some shows once it is safe to do so again.

“We are (safely and distantly) back at work putting the finishing touches on our 6th studio album, which we feel is our best yet. If all goes as planned, songs will be ready to roll out this Spring. We also have shows planned, so as soon as it’s safe, we will be out playing them!”

Since then, Tom DeLonge has posted various behind-the-scenes sneak peeks of the band working in the studio. Last month, he teased a brief clip of an unreleased Angels & Airwaves song. As well, he revealed that he used an old Box Car Racer guitar to track some of the new music.

Back in December, fans were convinced that DeLonge and Travis Barker may have something exciting planned for the band’s 20th anniversary. Some even theorize that they may finally drop that unreleased Box Car Racer song. So far, both DeLonge and Barker are keeping tight-lipped on if anything is planned.

Now, DeLonge has confirmed that the new album is nearly complete. This week, DeLonge confirmed that 5 songs have been sent off to be mixed. From there, the band will send off a few other songs to be mixed before closing “out this chapter.” Along with this, DeLonge also teased that this new material is the band’s “best yet.”

“What a great day. Sending 5 songs off to be mixed- the final stage in a songs evolution from the birth of the idea, to over 100 tracks diligently crafted with sounds, passion and goosebumps. Soon, another 5 songs will be sent over in the next couple weeks to close out this chapter. This @angelsandairwaves album has been 3 years in the making, and it’s our best yet. Thank you for all your patience, support and love.”

At the end of January, DeLonge also teased that this new Angels & Airwaves album has influences from all of his past musical projects on it.

“New @AVABandOfficial has some of the best work I’ve done in many years. I’d be honored if when it launches here soon that you give it a try… it’s got a little bit of all three bands I’ve been in. :)”

So far, Angels & Airwaves’ next album does not have a confirmed release date. However, DeLonge has managed to stay busy with a few other projects. Late last year, we learned that DeLonge is making his directorial debut in the new sci-fi film Monsters Of California. The coming of age adventure with a sci-fi twist is based on a script written by DeLonge and Ian Miller.

The film follows teenager Dallas Edwards (Jack Samson) and his friends who are on a quest to find the meaning behind a series of paranormal events in Southern California. During their journey, they begin to uncover secrets and truths about paranormal activity that lead back to the deepest levels of the American Government.

Along with his research with To The Stars Academy and fascination with UFOs, DeLonge also took inspiration from his early days in blink-182 for the film’s script. According to IMDbMonsters Of California has wrapped filming and is now in post-production.

DeLonge is also revisiting his past eras for his new custom skateboard deck series. The EVOLUTION collection features four different decks that represent certain time periods in his life. As it turns out, some blink-182 fans are convinced Boomer may be making a return for the fourth and final deck in the series.
