Tom Diaz, former vocalist of The World Is A Beautiful Place..., dead at 32

Tom Diaz, former vocalist for indie rock band The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, has died at 32.

The Connecticut outfit confirmed the news on their official Facebook page along with a statement and photos of Diaz. The musician was the founding vocalist and keyboard player of the band.

“We are incredibly heartbroken about the passing of Tom Diaz. He was an extremely talented artist, with such a huge amount of musicality,“ the statement reads.

“On top of all of that, he was an incredible friend.”

The World Is A Beautiful Place has shared that Diaz’s family would appreciate donations to the Friends of Assisi Food Pantry in Danielson, CT in Diaz’s honor.

Into It. Over It. also posted a tribute, writing: “To Tom Diaz. I have several memories of shared conversation, porch lit cigarettes, powerful insight and genuine warmth/kindness.

“A genuine soul who I hadn’t spoken with in some time but had left a memorable, strong and fond impression on me in my earliest days of touring. Rest easy my friend.”

Diaz formed the band with Tyler Bussey, Josh Cyr and Nicole Shanholtzer in 2009. During his time with the group, they recorded two EPs, Formlessness and Josh Is Dead, for Topshelf in 2010. He also shared lead vocals with David Bello on the band’s debut record, 2013’s Whenever, If Ever

The World Is A Beautiful Place’s debut album was Diaz’s final work with the band. In 2013 interview with Captain Maudlin following the record’s release, TWIABP’s Greg Horbal revealed that Whenever, If Ever was delayed due to Diaz’s “medical issues.”

“The LP took so long because the lead singer of the band Tom [Diaz] was running into a lot of medical issues. It was really hard for him to be on the road and practice for a while.

“We were getting ready to tour last year, and at the last minute he had to cancel the entire thing. He had to step down after that because he felt he was holding the band back.”

Diaz’s cause of death is yet to be reported.

Alt Press sends our deepest condolences to Diaz’s family and friends at this time.
