Tom Holland reportedly saved the Sony, Disney 'Spider-Man' deal

Last week, we were thrilled to learn that our beloved web-slinging superhero would be making his return to the Marvel Universe. Now, it appears that Spider-Man actor Tom Holland had a helping hand in bringing Sony and Disney back together to reach an agreement.

Superheros are real.

To backtrack, we learned Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige would no longer produce future spidey films due to the inability of the companies to “reach new terms that would have given (Sony) a co-financing stake going forward.”

Sony later released a statement saying they were disappointed about the decision but understand it.

However, the companies announced last week that a new deal had been reached. Marvel and Feige would produce the third film in the Spider-Man: Homecoming series that will come out in 2021.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland may be the one to thank for bringing the studios back to the negotiation table.

Sources tell THR that Holland “made multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution.”

In these appeals, the actor asked that Marvel produce a third Spider-Man movie for Sony. He also requested that Spider-Man appear in at least one additional Marvel film.

And it looks like those appeals paid off.

Marvel and Disney will receive about 25 percent of the profits from the upcoming film. Spider-Man will appear in a future Marvel film, Variety reports.

The next Spider-Man film will drop on July 16, 2021 starring Holland.
