Tom Morello has "no news" about Rage Against The Machine reunion

Tom Morello has some upsetting words for fans who hope to soon see a Rage Against The Machine reunion.

The band haven’t performed together since 2011’s L.A. Rising, and Morello’s latest interview makes it sound like another show won’t come anytime soon.

Morello was asked by HardDrive Radio at Sonic Temple festival to cite an example of when musical chemistry resulted in an amazing outcome.

“I had some of those riffs that ended up on the first Rage record on a cassette,” he said. “I was jamming with every musician in Hollywood with some of the riffs that would become ‘Bombtrack,’ ‘Freedom,’ ‘Township Rebellion,’ ‘Know Your Enemy.’ They didn’t sound like that until I played with Brad Wilk, Tim Commerford and Zach De La Rocha.”

“The second we were in a room together, it’s something I try not to over-intellectualize, it’s just something that happens,” he continued. “If you really pay attention to it, it’s because I play those huge riffs with a single coil pickup, so my guitar has sort of a springiness to it that’s not very metal. Timmy C. plays with a bass sound that sounds like three Black Sabbath’s playing at once, so it fills up that mid-range. Brad tends to play behind the beat, I play in front of it. Tim plays right on it, so these riffs because these huge sort of slabs of rhythms that is only because of the natural way we play together to the first rehearsal to the last gig.”

Then, after gushing about the band’s chemistry, he broke out hearts.

“There’s no news on the Rage Against The Machine front,” he said. “The times demand people standing up. That’s what I’m doing with my stuff, what Prophets of Rage is doing. Don’t wait around for Rage Against the Machine. Form your own band and get it done.”

Also at Sonic Temple, Morello took the stage with System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian to perform a tribute to the late Chris Cornell.

The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman died two years ago on May 18, so the tribute at Sonic Temple this weekend was almost to the day.

Morello was performing a variety of his songs when Tankian joined him on stage to perform the vocals of Audioslave’s “Like a Stone.”

The two have previously performed the same tribute song together in back in June 2017, so it was fitting they did so on the weekend of remembrance of the musician.

Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave’s Tom Morello has released a totally new version of his song “Every Step I Take” featuring Portugal. The Man and Vic Mensa.

The song was originally released in 2018 on his album The Atlas Underground. Now, the trio has given it a whole new spin.

Morello says that the “sonic conspiracy continues” following his collaboration with “super talented friends.”

Portugal. The Man frontman John Gourley also said that he’s done the song acoustically with Morello, but he couldn’t believe what Mensa added to the table.

As for Mensa, he couldn’t contain his excitement about working on the track with the two artists.

“It’s always a dream come true to rock with Tom on anything, I’m his biggest fucking fan,” Mensa said in the a press release. “Me & John actually met at like my 22nd birthday party at my house when I got cake faced by my girlfriend, so it was awesome to do some music together. “

The Atlas Underground was the first album Morello released solo, and both Portugal. The Man and Mensa were featured on it.
