Tom DeLonge to release live action Poet Anderson short film

Following his first novel in a planned trilogy for the Poet Anderson franchise (due out October 6), Angels & Airwaves frontman Tom DeLonge will release a live action short film surrounding the character that he's written and directed himself. The currently untitled short will star Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey as the titular character, along with Dylan Sprayberry, Taylor Spreitler and Samantha Logan, (via Los Angeles Times).

DeLonge describes the short as “a brief and modest look into the mythology of the Poet Anderson universe. Meant to be a bit ambiguous and artistic, the plot traces the edge of a girl having recurring dreams of a boy at her school. While the dreams are romantic, fun and adventurous, a real threat exists requiring someone there at all times to protect her.”

On joining up with DeLonge for the project, Posey says, “As a big fan of Tom’s, I knew all about the Poet franchise and couldn’t have been more stoked to be a part of it.” He adds, “And I was so humbled that he picked me to bring Poet to life. It was nothing short of a dream to work with him, let alone having him compliment me on my work and feeling like a true friend of his rather than just a work partner. He's a real genuine, ambitious and inspiring person that I love calling a friend.” Likewise, DeLonge explains of their meeting and collaboration, “I was introduced to Tyler through some common friends and after a brief conversation it became very apparent we needed to work together. He was a passionate guy, and desiring opportunities to create art that was out of the box and forward-thinking. This made him a great match for the way I think. Tyler, as a person, has a gravity and calmness that came through on this film. He added ‘cool’ to the Poet character, a steady hand of youth and bravado. The emotional range he brought showed the heart, and passion for what a ‘Poet’ does…and is.”
