In May, it was announced that the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and Pro Skater 2 video games are getting a reboot. Both games have been remastered and will feature all of the iconic pro skaters and old-school action with new and revamped levels. The remastered game, issued by Activision, arrives on Sept. 4, 2020.
Now, the exclusive documentary about the creation and success of the video game series finally has a release date.
Video gamers and skaters alike were stoked to hear about the remastering of Pro Skater 1 and 2. For Hawk, he hopes that the Pro Skater reboot will inspire a new generation.
“The original Tony Hawk Pro Skater series is a big factor in the evolution of modern skateboarding tricks and inspiring many of the pro skaters you know and love today,” Hawk says. “I’m excited to help inspire a new generation of skateboarders and gamers—and existing fans—to grow the sport even further.”
Along with the revamped game, the full roster of pro skaters players will be able to choose from was recently released. From the legendary skaters featured in the original series to new pro skaters, there is now a diverse selection of skaters to play. The new lineup is in efforts to make the game more inclusive and representative of the skating world today.
Now, Pro Skater fans are also getting an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary. Pretending I’m A Superman – The Tony Hawk Video Game Story first premiered at the 2020 Mammoth Film Festival back in February. The documentary tells tell the story of Hawk’s Pro Skater series. Its title is from the iconic Goldfinger track featured in the first game’s soundtrack.
The film also covers Hawk’s journey throughout the creation of the video game series that eventually went on to earn $1.4 billion worldwide. Viewers will also get to see how the series revived mainstream skate culture after its launch.
Pretending I’m A Superman – The Tony Hawk Video Game Story arrives digitally on Aug. 18, less than a month before the remastered Pro Skater 1 + 2 hit shelves on Sept. 4.
The documentary will include never-before-scene footage and interviews with Hawk as well as other legendary pro skaters. Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Jamie Thomas and Chad Muska all appear in the documentary and are also featured in the remastered game.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 will also include some fan-favorite features from the original games. Create-A-Park and Create-A-Skater modes have returned. This time, Create-A-Park will have massive customization options. And the remaster has upped the level of goals and challenges. Players can share parks online with friends and outfit skaters with skill options.
