Tool fan’s vanity plate gets rejected at California DMV

A Tool fan recently decided to show his pride for the rock band by getting a special vanity plate dedicated to the band’s album, Ænima. However, when he wanted to get “AENIMA” on the plate, he was rejected by the state of California.

In a story with Spin, the driver allegedly explained on the application that he wanted the plate to pay homage to the band, stating that it was a reference to their second album’s title.

However, the California official in charge of shifting through the vanity plates cited the request was too similar-sounding to “Enema,” which could be considered indecent or offensive.

The California DMV commented: “Custom meaning is true, but sounds like Enema.”

In addition to rejecting “AENIMA,” the DMV also rejected plates such as “TUNAFSH,” “420EDDI” and “DICKOUT.”

However, the California DMV let some interesting plates slide. A driver submitted the request for “S8TAN” and somehow got it approved with the explanation, “Saint Anne is an important historical figure, and someone who I model my life after.”

Sure it is.
