‘Toy Story 4’ cameos have Pixar worlds colliding again

Apparently, Toy Story 4 has a few tricks up its sleeve. By the looks of it, the new installment in the Toy Story franchise is not just colliding one parallel universe, but two: Monsters Inc. and the Incredibles

While the Pixar and Disney franchises are no stranger to incorporating old characters into new movies in the form of Easter eggs, it is much less common for them to do so in reverse order.

What we mean by that is, instead of making popular characters reappear in new releases, the company may actually introduce a character as a short cameo even before they become an official plot device.

At least that seems to be the case for the new Toy Story character, Duke Caboom. In fact, according to Uproxx, the character has previously appeared in the 2018 film Incredibles 2. However, back when the character appeared in the Incredibles sequel, he didn’t have any character description or even a name. In fact, his cameo was so small, you probably didn’t even notice it.

In the scene in the Incredibles 2 where Jack Jack is standing in his crib, you can see a few toys laying around. However, one toy in particular allegedly appears in both movie universes.

While it’s hard to make out the toy’s appearance in Incredibles 2, it definitely looks as though the two share the same outfit and mustache.

Now, according to some released Toy Story merchandise and the new trailer, we know that Duke Caboom is a Canadian motorcycle fanatic, voiced by Keanu Reeves.

“I didn’t know Keanu was Canadian, and I did not know that he had a motorcycle company, until after we cast him,” director Josh Cooley says in a story with Entertainment Weekly. “We always had this character, who was always this bravado Canadian stuntman, and in my head, I had this one [idea] of how it would be performed, but then we met with Keanu and before he even signed on, he wanted to have lunch. And once he came to the table, he started asking all these great questions and doing different voices and actually jumped up on the table in the middle of Pixar to act out the character and his great ideas that we didn’t have in there originally. It was really incredible. Keanu really did help craft that character in a huge, huge way.”

Additionally, a Twitter user pointed out that the Toy Story 4 trailer also has ties with the Monsters Inc. universe.

In a screenshot, it looks as though the Bonnie may know the famous Boo from her class.
