Trent Reznor wins Country Music Award with “Old Town Road” sample

We’re truly living in strange times and Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor along with Atticus Ross winning a Country Music Award is further proof.

Reznor and Ross are both taking home an award for the Music Event Of The Year for Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” remix with Billy Ray Cyrus sampling the NIN track “34 Ghosts IV.”

It was first revealed in September that Reznor and Ross would be included in the award nomination and now it looks like they’re taking the award home.

The song became one of the biggest singles ever after going viral this year, leading to the Billy Ray Cyrus remix.

The Nine Inch Nails frontman has been fairly quiet about the entire ordeal up until recently when he spoke about how he felt about the situation.

Reznor was both realistic and vulnerable with his response to hearing the song.”At first, when you hear your stuff turned into something else, it always feels awkward because it’s something that intimately came from you in some way,” Reznor tells Rolling Stone.  “You feel a little bit violated, you know?” he laughs. “And then you get over that, and you realize it has become something else, and the Johnny Cash thing is incredible. It’s very flattering.

He also poked a bit of fun at appearing on the country track through an Instagram post of him and Ross photoshopped over a Brooks and Dunn press shot.
