Against Me!, Queen songs in cease-and-desist to Straight Pride Parade
John Hugo, organizer of the Straight Pride Parade, claimed he was in talks with TripAdvisor in regards to a possible sponsorship for his event. Now, it looks like those claims have been proven false as TripAdvisor sends Hugo a cease-and-desist letter. The best part? The letter was full of song titles including Against Me!, Queen and more.

Hugo, who is also the founder of Super Happy Fun America, has TripAdvisor listed as one of many “Prospective Corporate Sponsors” for his Straight Pride Parade.
On Friday, a cease and desist letter was sent from the company claiming Hugo was infringing on their trademark by using their logo without permission.
The letter works in several song titles adopted by the LGBTQ+ community including “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga and “You Need To Calm Down” by Taylor Swift.
You can read a snippet of the letter below.
“There is nothing Vogue or acceptable about making false claims about others merely to support your own cause. If I Could Turn Back Time, I would tell you not to use our name in the first place. But now that you have, TripAdvisor demands that you remove all uses of our name, mark and logo from your website (and anywhere else you might use it) within 24 hours and not use them again.”
A full copy of the letter soon made its way to Twitter.
An absolute douche called John Hugo was organising a ‘Straight Pride Parade’
He fibbed and said they were in negotiations with @TripAdvisor as a sponsor. Their letter to him is a stone cold zinger – with extra kudos points for peppering it with song titles just for fun pic.twitter.com/TdjCffk6vX— Bands FC (@_Bands_FC) July 20, 2019

Laura Jane Grace retweeted the letter, approving of TripAdvisor’s use of the Against Me! track, “Black Me Out.”
Kudos to @TripAdvisor for telling the ‘straight pride parade’ organizers to fuck off with this letter that references ‘Black Me Out’ https://t.co/lpuqsiYg19

Currently, there are a few logos on the Super Happy Fun America website that have black X’s over them, indicating the company has decided to participate.
At the time of publishing, TripAdvisor’s logo has yet to be removed from the list of potential sponsors.
A spokesperson for the company stated, “TripAdvisor is a proud and inclusive workplace. We believe the organizers of this event owe the LGBTQ+ community and apology – even if SORRY SEEMS TO BE THE HARDEST WORD to say.”
