twenty one pilots invite fans to explore DEMA in interactive experience

twenty one pilots are fully engrossed in the Trench era, and we are so here for it. The band recently wrapped the first U.S. leg of their Bandito tour, but it looks like we won’t have to wait all that long to immerse ourselves in that world again.

The duo partnered with Spotify for “Bandito Immersive Experience.” They posted about it with the caption, “Explore DEMA with the immersive #bandito visual/experience from Spotify.”

Neither the band nor Spotify are offering up much information on the new experience, so it looks like we’ll all have to dive in ourselves. You can check out the band’s tweet announcing the experience below.

Upon clicking the link, you’re prompted to turn on your audio, and “Bandito” appropriately starts playing. Five logos then flash across the screen with the message: “Find the encrypted symbols in trench to uncover their meaning.”

Once located, each symbol has a name and description with it, but we won’t spoil those for you here. You can experience the immersive world for yourself at this link.

twenty one pilots and DEMA

twenty one pilots wrapped up Tour De Columbus, a five-date run of their hometown of Columbus, in June 2017.

They began posting tour recaps with the final one hitting YouTube July 5, 2017. Soon after, the band’s twitter posted a mysterious image that slowly closed until it stated, “And now I just sit in silence.”

On July 17, 2017, TOP won Most Dedicated Fans Presented By Fearless Records at the 2017 Journey’s Alternative Press Music Awards, Fueled By Monster.

Josh Dun accepted the award, stating “Tyler wishes he could be here. He’s actually off severing ties with DEMA.” The statement marked the first time DEMA was mentioned to the public.

Fans immediately began launching theories over what DEMA is.

In April 2018, fans were on high alert after a website link was found hidden within a gif on the TOP website. What they found immediately initiated a new round of theories regarding DEMA and TOP in general, sparking a new hope inside the Clique that the hiatus soon be over.

In May 2018, fans uncovered more information about DEMA through a new picture posted on dmaorg.info:

“To refer to Dema as my home has never felt accurate. Dema, to me, has simply been the place that I’ve existed, or, the ‘slot’ they’ve put me in. I’ve heard stories about the idea of ‘home,’ and its depiction has always seemed warm from the storyteller’s description. There was a realistic ownership of the place they inhabited that I admired, but could never relate to. This place, my place, however, seems devoid of the romance and wonder that the old stories tell. But, somewhere between the iron order and infallible precision of Dema, a hum of wonder exists, It’s the quiet wonder that my mind tends to gets lost in. This hope of discovery alone has birthed a new version of myself; a better version, I hope, that will find a way to experience what’s beyond these colossal walls. —Clancy”

twenty one pilots broke their social media silence in July 2018 and released “Jumpsuit” a few days later.
