Nielsen Music's Mid-Year Report tracks the sales along with units earned from the period of Dec. 30, 2016 through June 29, 2017. One interesting statistic released from the report is how there have been over 180 billion on-demand audio streams through that tracking period. That's a 62% increase in audio streams compared to this time last year.

Metallica and Twenty One Pilots top the chart for Top 10 Rock Albums as Metallica's tenth album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct , earned 540,000 units and sold 487,000 copies, while Twenty One Pilots'  Blurryface earned 451,000 units and sold 177,000 copies.

Twenty One Pilots took the top two spots for Top 10 On-Demand Rock Video Streams with “Heathens” being streamed over 110,000,000 times. “Stressed Out” took the second spot as that video has been streamed over 64,000,000 times.

In case you're wondering, Smash Mouth also made the list for Top 10 On-Demand Rock Video Streams at the No. 7 spot as “All-Star” has been streamed over 38,000,000 times. This number truly shows the power of memes.

“Stressed Out” was recently certified as 6x platinum by the RIAA. To qualify as 6x platinum, your track has to have over 6,000,000 US units. Other Twenty One Pilots tracks that were recently certified also include “Heathens” which is now 5x platinum, “Ride” which is now 4x platinum, along with “House of Gold” and “Holding On To You” being certified platinum.

A unit translates into one download or 150 on-demand streams.

If this is how successful Metallica and Twenty One Pilots are halfway through the year, we can't wait to see their end of the year numbers!
