Gerard Way reacts to Twenty One Pilots’ cover of “Cancer”

We all know how much we love Twenty One Pilots’ cover of My Chemical Romance’s “Cancer,” and we just figured MCR would appreciate it, too.

Well, it’s been confirmed that Gerard Way is a fan of their take on the My Chemical Romance favorite, and it’s truly one of the best things we’ve heard all day.

“It was great. I was really impressed,” Way tells PopBuzz. “I didn't know what to expect, and I was surprised by what I heard.”

He tells the entertainment news source that he appreciates their take on the song and the way they made it their own—even, and especially, the way it had an almost remix-vibe.

“There's a bit of rejuggling of parts and I was like ‘Wow, this almost sounds like a remix,’ but it's a cover by way of this, kind of, rearrangement and I was really impressed with it,” Way explains. “I like that band anyway, I like the sound of that band. I think what they do is really interesting. So, I was psyched to hear that cover.”

He agrees that there’s a line of influence between Twenty One Pilots and MCR, saying that they’re a “good band,” and we couldn’t be happier to see our favorites are fans of each other, too.

Not to mention, he also explains that there’s still an MCR group text, but in case you were wondering, they do not have a group text chat name.

“I'm 40 now so I had no idea you could name a group text chat,” Way says. “I’m pretty sure none of us knew that. It's just our names at the top.”

All the important information we need to know, of course.
