It all started when CHVRCHES made a statement about the producer working with Brown and Tyga.

“We are really upset, confused and disappointed by Marshmello’s choice to work with Tyga and Chris Brown,” they wrote on Twitter. “We like and respect Mello as a person but working with people who are predators and abusers enables, excuses and ultimately tacitly endorses that behaviour. That is not something we can or will stand behind.”

Brown’s list of controversies includes the felony assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, numerous weapons charges and an ongoing lawsuit regarding an alleged rape in Paris.

Meanwhile, Tyga has been criticized over his relationship with a then-underaged Kylie Jenner. Back in 2016, a 14-year-old girl stated she had an “uncomfortable” conversation with him via Instagram, according to TMZ.

Brown responded to CHVRCHES via their Instagram post stating:

“BUNCH OF LOSERS. these are the type of people I wish walked in front of a speeding bus full of mental patients. Keep groveling over you own insecurities and hatred. IM BLACK AND PROUD. AND I KNOW ITS HURTS THAT U GUYS ARE STRUGGLING WIT LIFE OR PEACE SO U ARE FORCED TO SEE MY SUCCESS. You aren’t even #2 (REMEMBER 2nd place only means YOU LOST FIRST! TA-TA. GOODDAY PEASANTS”.

Now, Tyga has responded in a recent interview with Billboard.

“Well, people who aren’t in the culture of hip-hop or rap only look at it as one way. It’s all the same. I think they were more mad that Marshmello put out a new song right after they did one with him. But he’s a producer and a DJ, so he’s putting out new records with people every week. You get what I’m saying? But you don’t hear us complaining. [Our song] was a little different from his genre and probably his fan base, which was cool though. And people like it, you know?”

More on CHVRCHES

Following the comments, the band stated Brown’s fans were sending them threats over their stance. CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry ranted about Brown during a show Saturday night. She suggested she needed to buy a “bulletproof tutu” for her shows due to the graphic threats she’s receiving.

You can see a video of her speech below.

The band came out to say they’ve been forced to increase security at their live shows due to the nature of the threats.

“I am not staying in my own home when we finish tour because the threats we have received have reached such a scale,” wrote Mayberry on Twitter. “We have to have the police at our shows now. If that’s what I deserve for saying mainstream music should be more morally conscious, then so be it.”

She continued: “And again, it is not you who is having to have police presence at shows and advance security in their actual own real life outside of a band persona.”
