Ultra Music Festival “suspending to a later date” over coronavirus concerns
City officials will be making an official announcement on Friday morning about the event's fate for 2020.March 4, 2020
According to a report from the Miami Herald, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Commissioner Joe Carollo and City Manager Art Noriega met with festival organizers to discuss postponing.
The EDM-centric festival is announcing they are postponing the event, possibly for a full year, but they aren’t ruling out a comeback yet.
The decision is being made after city officials met with organizers this morning (March 4).
Prior to the meeting, Suarez and Carollo were telling reporters they wanted it to be pushed off due to coronavirus concerns.
According to Miami Herald‘s report, the exact details of the change aren’t being released quite yet while they work out legal issues including how long the postponement has to be for.
After the meeting, Carollo and Suarez said an official announcement is coming Friday morning.
“The decision was made to postpone it,” Commissioner Manolo Reyes tells the Herald. Reyes also says the city is looking to postpone another festival in March.
“I agreed with the decision to postpone it,” Reyes said. “And now I’m worried about the Calle Ocho Festival.”
“We’re not saying ‘canceling.’ We’re saying ‘suspending to a later date when we have a better idea where we’re heading with the coronavirus,’” says Carollo.

Several artists have been canceling shows since the rise of coronavirus as it continues to spark global issues.
Earlier today, YUNGBLUD canceled shows in Asia while others including Green Day, BTS, and Marilyn Manson all postponed their upcoming shows in Asia. Shortly after, Avril Lavigne and Set It Off followed suit earlier this week. The Chinese theatrical release of Mulan has been postponed by Disney as well.
This announcement comes after a tough 2019 for the festival. The event faced numerous issues while moving from their usual home at Bayfront Park to Virginia Key. They’ve since reclaimed their spot at Bayfront but now the event is up in the air.
