‘The Umbrella Academy’ actors cover two classics for deluxe soundtrack

After an incredible amount of buzz encompassing the music used in the Umbrella Academy, the series is gearing up to release an original series soundtrack deluxe edition.

The soundtrack will feature the show’s classic tunes, including an exclusive Mary J. Blige cover of Rod Stewart And The Faces’ “Stay With Me” and Emmy Raver-Lampman’s take on “Stormy Weather.”

“When Steve [Blackman] first asked me if I would be willing to do a cover of the known classic “Stormy Weather,”once covered by legends such as Billie Holiday, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, for the opening of episode eight, I was speechless,” Raver-Lampman says of the soundtrack. “We had been shooting for about six months already and I was really starting to miss singing on a regular basis, having just left Hamilton. However, taking on such an iconic song had me a little weak at the knees; as well as the fact that I would be singing over my own characters cold open for the episode. But above all of that, I felt deeply honored.”

Additionally, composer Jeff Russo shared some words about fitting the show’s aura with an inspiring score.

“With such an eclectic group of characters, writing themes was super fun,” Russo says. “Many different personalities got many different musical motifs and feelings.”

The deluxe edition will come out digitally this Friday, April 19 via Lakeshore Records. However, in the meantime, you can order your copy of the original soundtrack, sans deluxe exclusives, here.

Based on the comic books by Gerard Way, the Netflix series debuted back in February. You can watch the trailer for the show below.

Recently, Both The Umbrella Academy Twitter account and our beloved Aidan Gallagher, who plays Number Five on the show, revealed the series would be renewed for a Season Two.
