Urban Outfitters is now the world’s biggest seller of vinyl records

Urban Outfitters chief administrative officer Calvin Hollinger confirmed to Buzzfeed recently that the company is the world's biggest seller of vinyl records. “Music is very, very important to the Urban customer… in fact, we are the world’s number one vinyl seller,” he said.

Hollinger credited the company’s vinyl success to a system that lets them seamlessly offer inventory from 100 vendors without actually owning the inventory. That virtually eliminates any risk a retailer would take on.

The vinyl resurgence is in full swing: Sales rose to 6.1 million in 2013, which is the highest since 1991, and sales are on track to rise even higher in 2014.
