Van Halen rumored to tour with their original lineup in 2019

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind for fans of the classic rock giants Van Halen, as it appears that the group will be making their return to the stage.

If the rumors turn out the be true, Van Halen will be coming back in 2019 in order to do a string of arena tours – but most exciting of all, it will be with their original lineup.

This latest round of news (well, internet rumors) comes from two interviews: one from the band’s lead singer David Lee Roth and another from the radio personality Eddie Trunk.

As Consequence Of Sound points out, the band’s vocalist recently did an interview with Vulture, where he teased that a tour would be coming.

“When we come back through town in the summertime and do the original thing, maybe somewhere sportin’, maybe with somebody famous, I’ll make sure we get you all tickets so you can see what we do for gainful employment.”

Further into the interview, the singer also shared that they’ll be playing “the same place that the Yankees play.”

When pressed on the information, he didn’t exactly budge, but he shared that Van Halen is slated to play Yanke Stadium sometime next summer, saying: “Yeah, but I can’t … If I say something on tape here and everybody goes, “Oh, this leaked…” But, the band will be — I can’t say.”

He then continued with:

“Well, I don’t know how far this privacy actually goes. But the band is solvent. And I can say that I contacted colleagues about being part of the show — Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Jason Aldean, the Foo Fighters, Church, and Stapleton. And they all said that, if everything happens, they would certainly be involved.”

The rumor mill has further escalated, all thanks to Eddie Trunk, who has hinted that a few key “industry sources” has claimed that the band’s former bassist Michael Anthony will be coming back for the tour.

As transcribed and reported by Ultimate Guitar, Trunk recently shared some details of the new tour. Before we continue, it’s important to note that he’s stressed that these are just rumors, so it might not necessarily happen.

Trunk explained that he has begun to hear some “rumblings” that the band will be planning on doing some touring in the new year:

“I hesitate to even talk about this because every year there’s some rumor about Van Halen about to do something or announce something, and ultimately it just doesn’t happen. But, a little more so than normal as we close out 2018, I’m starting to hear some rumblings. I have sources and people I hear from and stuff that – as I was saying the other day, has to remain off the record. So I cannot cite my source, but I did hear from somebody who is in the music industry, who told me that he has spoken to some people and he’s hearing from some people that there indeed will be some Van Halen activity in 2019 in terms of live shows.”

He then continued on to say that these sources have cited that the group are doing some type of “stadium package,” one that is slated to include the band’s original lineup.

“The rumors from reliable sources – but still rumors that are unconfirmed – is that the band will tour in 2019 with the original band, which would mean the return of Michael [Anthony], and that there it’s gonna be some sort of stadium package. So again I cannot stress enough that is not confirmed in any way shape or form but there are starting to be some real substantial rumors about that as we close out 2018.”
