Vic Firth founder dies at 85

Everett “Vic” Firth has died at the age of 85. He is known for founding the Vic Firth Company, which provides drum sticks and mallets to some of your favorite drummers. [Photo via Wikimedia Commons]

“Vic was an inspiration to all of us,” reads a post on the company's official Facebook page. “He was a visionary, a mentor, a leader and a friend. He always said he surrounded himself with the best people, but the truth is he brought out the best in all of us. His boundless passion for music and musicians drove every decision he made.”

Vic began his journey in music at a very young age, learning to play various instruments. In 1963, he founded Vic Firth, Inc (later relabeled Vic Firth Company). In 2010, Firth merged with Avedis Zildjian Company.
