Walmart pulls Santa Claus cocaine-inspired “Let It Snow” sweater

Ugly sweaters tend to go hand-in-hand with the Christmas season, but Walmart Canada definitely sent a shockwave through those seeking their latest festive addition.

Last week, the retail chain’s Canada-based site received backlash when one of their sweaters started making the rounds online. Featuring a blue backdrop behind Santa Claus with text that reads “Let It Snow,” the top seems innocent enough until you realize the snow it’s referring to is cocaine.

A wide-eyed Santa is tossing some powder in the air as lines of cocaine are lined in front of him. If you’re still not convinced that it’s drugs and not actual snow, the sweater’s description on the Walmart site clears it all up.

We all know how snow works. It’s white, powdery and the best snow comes straight from South America. That’s bad news for jolly old St. Nick, who lives far away in the North Pole. That’s why Santa really likes to take savor the moment when he gets his hands on some quality, grade A, Colombian snow.

He packs it in perfect lines on his coffee table and then takes a big whiff to smell the high-quality aroma of the snow. It’s exactly what he needs to get inspired for Christmas Eve. This Men’s Let It Snow Ugly Christmas Sweater captures the moment when Santa is finally ready to enjoy that sweet, imported snow. It’s also warm and comfy, so you can wear it any time the snow starts blowing this holiday season.

Shortly after going viral, Walmart Canada pulled the sweater off the site, placing blame on a third-party seller.

“These sweaters, sold by a third-party seller on Walmart.ca, do not represent Walmart’s values and have no place on our website,” a spokesperson told Global News Canada. “We have removed these products from our marketplace. We apologize for any unintended offense this may have caused.”

More on ugly Christmas sweaters

Much like the sandwiches, all-new Popeyes Ugly Christmas Sweaters sold out nearly immediately. The delightful orange and white-striped bundle of warmth is all gone. We’re only talking about the sweater right now because Popeyes hasn’t sold out of the sandwich yet.

Given the insanity surrounding the sandwich, it makes sense that the craze would carry over into all Popeyes chicken sandwich related merchandise areas. Popeyes partnered with UglyChristmasSweater.com, a popular ugly sweater company to create what may be the tastiest looking sweater of all time. It’s sure to be a hit at parties. Check it out below.

This sweater looks so good, you might be on the dinner table on Christmas Day. The Popeyes sweater retailed for $44.95, nearly 11-times the cost of a sandwich. At that price, we’d take the sandwiches. To see the sweater in more detail, head here.
