All the way back in September, Awsten Knight confirmed the end of the FANDOM era was near when he chopped off his iconic green hair. Waterparks even gave the FANDOM era one last encore with their live album FANDOM: LIVE IN THE UK. In September, Waterparks finally dropped their single “Lowkey As Hell,” the first preview of their next album.

Now, nearly five months after the release of “Lowkey As Hell,” Waterparks have officially introduced their new era. After album title fan theories emerged earlier this week, Waterparks confirmed that their next album is called Greatest Hits and it arrives on May 21.

Now, Waterparks are offering another taste of their new album with their dynamic single “Snow Globe.” The trio first teased the new track in a cryptic social media post that sent fans into a frenzy.

The Daft Punk-esque track shows a completely different side to Awsten Knight, Otto Wood and Geoff Wigington. Filled with Knight’s signature vocals and a blend of techno sounds and rhythmic beats, “Snow Globe” marks a true departure from 2019’s FANDOM. If “Snow Globe” is an indication of what’s in store for Waterparks’ next era, fans should expect new sounds and experimental tracks they’ve never heard from the trio before.

Although “Snow Globe” has finally been released, there’s still even more new content on the way. On Friday, Feb. 26 at 3 P.M. ET, Waterparks are releasing a video for their new single.

“Hello AP,” Knight says. “I love u also everyone else what’s going on! ‘Snow Globe’ is extreme! You can be too if you want! See you at the premiere in 2 hours.”

UPDATE: FEB. 26, 2021, 3:05 P.M. ET

As promised, Waterparks have premiered their new video for “Snow Globe.” The visual shows the trio in a winter wonderland of their own as they perform the single amidst flurries of snow. The sporadic spotlight shining on the band gives the video a minimalistic tone as Waterparks introduce their most experimental song to date.

Awsten Knight exclusively told Alternative Press that he really enjoys minimalistic videos. In fact, some of his favorite Waterparks videos were made usually only the essentials. As a result, Waterparks had a bare-bones approach for the “Snow Globe” visual.

“LATELY I’VE GOTTEN INTO MINIMALISM IN MUSIC VIDEOS,” Knight says. “SEEING HOW MUCH YOU CAN DO WITH AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IN THE PAST SOME OF MY FAVORITE MUSIC VIDEOS OF OURS (LIKE ‘HIGH DEFINITION‘ AND ‘LUCKY PEOPLE‘) CAME FROM US JUST MAKING IT ALL OURSELVES.”

By keeping details and elements in the visual minimal, Knight hopes the “Snow Globe” video doesn’t give too much away and allows fans to decide the meaning behind the single for themselves.

“‘SNOW GLOBE’ IS ALSO A SONG I WANTED TO LET SPEAK FOR ITSELF AND DIDN’T WANT TO SIMULTANEOUSLY TRY AND PUSH A SEPARATE COMPETING NARRATIVE IN THE VISUAL,” Knight continues. “VIDEOS THAT FEEL LIKE ART PROJECTS ARE MORE FUN TO MAKE AND THAT’S WHAT THIS IS.”
