Marvel fans said goodbye to Chris Evans’ Captain America in Avengers: Endgame after that symbolic scene where he hands his shield off to Anthony Mackie‘s Falcon. However, it looks like the MCU may not have seen the last of Evans’ Captain America just yet.

According to Deadline, Evans is in talks to reprise his role for a future Marvel Studios project. At this time, it has not been revealed which project this could be. However, it’s unlikely another Captain America movie will be made in the future.

Instead, it’s more likely that Evans will mirror what Robert Downey, Jr. did after Iron Man 3 and appear in other MCU films. With Spider-Man 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2 and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 among the films set to be released over the next few years, it’s possible Evans could reappear as Captain America in one of those.

At this time, Marvel Studios has made no public comments about the reports. As expected, the speculation has caused a slew of reactions to emerge online. “Chris Evans,” “Endgame” and “Steve Rogers” are among the phrases to start trending on Twitter on Thursday.

At the end of Endgame, viewers bid farewell to an old, 106 years old in fact, Steve Rogers. It turns out, however, that old man Steve Rogers wasn’t actually part of Evans’ goodbye plans. Mackie recently appeared on SiriusXM‘s The Jess Cagle Show where he revealed that Evans wasn’t supposed to play the old version of Steve Rogers. Instead, Marvel Studios brought in three older actors to audition for the role before it was eventually given to Evans.

“Well, it’s funny they actually wanted to cast an old dude to play Chris Evans,” he says. “So they brought in like three actors. They’re like, none of these, like this, isn’t how Chris will look when he’s old. Like, he’s gonna, he’s like George Clooney. He’s going to be 95 and still like handsome, you know? So they, they brought in a makeup team and prosthetics and makeup and made them into an old man. And how good of an actor Chris is it actually worked like he, he pulled it off with his voice and everything. He did a great job.”

Since the passing over of the Captain America shield, there’s been speculation over whether or not Mackie’s Sam Wilson will become the next Captain America. The upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is going to address that elephant in the room.

“The show, the idea of the show is basically, you know, and at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Cap decided he was going into retirement and he asked me if I would take up the shield, but at no point in time, did I agree to or say that I would be Captain America,” Mackie says. “So the show walks the line of who is going to take up the shield and who’s going to be Captain America if Steve isn’t coming back.”
