Weezer celebrate major milestone for “Africa” cover
Weezer have something to celebrate— their cover of “Africa” by Toto just went certified Gold.
In case you forgot how we got here, let’s have a refresher on why the band covered the song in the first place, and how it resulted in a surprise album.

It all started when a fan account @WeezerAfrica campaigned for the band to cover the track and it became a huge hit.
Since then, Weezer dropped The Teal Album, a complete collection of cover songs, just before dropping their latest release, The Black Album (which they premiered on Fortnite.)
Now, “Africa” has gone certified Gold and Platinum. This is the first time the band’s had a Gold record since “Maladroit” in 2002.
The band celebrated the huge success on Twitter.
“Its been a while, man, lifes so rad. A while, that is, since we were awarded with a gold record! Thanks to everyone – Mary the @weezerafrica twitter girl, our fans, terrestrial and satellite stations, streaming services, and Crush management – for supporting this crazy single!”
