Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo to be subject of new Fox comedy, ‘DeTour’

The life events of Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo will be the subject of a new Fox comedy called DeTour. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show, which was pitched by Psych creator Steve Franks, will be a single-camera comedy inspired by the singer/songwriter’s famous sabbatical from music to go to college at Harvard.

Via the Hollywood Reporter:

“It tells the story of a 30-something rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.”

DeTour will tell Cuomo’s story with a fictional character and “the small band of misfit friends that make it possible for him to get through his formative years.”

Weezer’s ninth studio album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, is due out Oct. 7 on Republic Records. Listen to the album’s first single, “Back To The Shack,” below.
