Wendy's has some things to say about pop-punk and the new MGK album
Wendy’s may be best known for their beef and tweets, but a recent Twitter exchange stemming from a Machine Gun Kelly reference just proved once again that pop-punk commentary is well within their realm of expertise.
The series of tweets started Monday in response to a Dunkin’ ad for their new Spicy Ghost Pepper Donut. The post shows a woman donning a donut costume outside a Wendy’s restaurant holding a giant, printed tweet.

“Listen to the life-sized donut: You don’t have to settle for spicy nuggets. #DunkinSpicySide” The tweet reads, throwing shade at Wendy’s coveted menu item.
“Stick to pushing the food that’s so ‘good’ you took it out of your name,” the Wendy’s account replied, referring to Dunkin’s 2019 name change, “My grandma has more heat in her roasts.”

Followers were quick to react to the burn, further fueling the fire that is Wendy’s hilarious Twitter presence.
“Top 5 Things Eminem’s afraid to diss,” Twitter user @FloorGang_OUGH says.

“Please don’t make him do it, my pop punk album to recover after his diss isn’t ready,” Wendy’s responded, referencing MGK’s latest pop-punk album Tickets To My Downfall, which caused some to claim he “switched genres” after the long-running Eminem feud.

This sparked immediate curiosity among Wendy’s pop-punk aligned followers who needed more details from the apparent scene kid behind the account. The feed previously hinted at a familiarity with the alternative scene in 2019 when it roasted State Champs, Hawthorne Heights and more. This narrative continued earlier this year when the account quoted lyrics from Good Charlotte’s “The Anthem” to Joel Madden himself.
“Honestly the new MGK is full of bangers,” Wendy’s responded to a question on their favorite songs off Tickets To My Downfall. Earlier this month, the record marked MGK’s first-ever debut at No.1 on the Billboard 200.
“#1 album being a pop punk album is gonna do great things for the scene. Meet Me @ The Altar, Stand Atlantic, Hot Mulligan, Grayscale, Knuckle Puck, nothing, nowhere., If I Die First is a great throwback sound. Tons more.”
The shoutout speaks volumes to the account’s knowledge of the modern pop-punk scene in its inclusion of new, rising artists. Meet Me @ the Altar formed circa 2015 and just announced that they’d signed with Fueled by Ramen earlier this month.
As one of the newer supergroups the scene, If I Die First released their debut EP, My Poison Arms, this past August. The post-hardcore act features From First to Last’s Travis Richter, Ghostemane’s Nolan Nunes and Cayle Sain, Lil Lotus, Lil Zubin, and Nedarb.
