Will Smith reportedly in talks to play Genie in live-action ‘Aladdin’ remake

News has surfaced that Aladdin is due for a musical remake—and Will Smith might just play Genie. (via Deadline)

With remakes already in the works for Mulan, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, this is just another live-action Disney film that could be hitting the big screen some point soon.

According to Deadline, the new Aladdin film is reportedly starting shooting in the U.K. in July and wrapping up early next year.

At present, Deadline reports that Dan Lin is producing the re-imagined project. The executive producer is reportedly Jonathan Eirich, and John August has reportedly scripted the story.

Smith’s name had also been dropped in regards to the new Tim Burton Dumbo film, but nothing materialized from those discussions at this point.

The original Aladdin was released in 1992, and Robin Williams voiced the original character.
