Woman suddenly can’t hear any male voices overnight

A woman now known as Ms. Chen has been diagnosed with a rare hearing condition. Hong Kong doctors have officially ruled that her loss of hearing is from “low-frequency hearing loss.”

According to the Daily Mail, only 13,000 people are affected by this hearing condition in the world. Even so, it often goes undiagnosed as sometimes patients and doctors are unknown to the disease.

To clarify, the woman can only hear voices belonging to other women. No shade, but that would mean that she couldn’t listen to a lot of bands in the scene.

The Daily Mail reports that Ms. Chen suddenly experienced symptoms overnight. Before she went to bed one evening, she experienced nausea and a ringing in her ears. After thinking she could sleep it off, she awoke next to her boyfriend, unable to hear him.

Ms. Chen immediately went to see an ENT. After Dr. Lin Xiaoqing checked out her symptoms, she was able to identify that she could not hear deeper voices due to their lower frequencies.

“She was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn’t hear him at all,” Dr. Xiaoqing says in a story with the Daily Mail.

It is believed that genetics can cause this condition. However, in Ms. Chen’s case, Dr. Xiaoqing thinks that stress may have caused the sudden loss of hearing.

Luckily, because doctors treated her condition quickly, Ms. Chen is expected to make a full recovery.
