'Wonder Woman' prepares for war, hints at villain in revealing new trailer—watch

Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for Wonder Woman, which is the latest installment from the DC Extended Universe. The highly anticipated and first live-action production of the story stars Gal Gadot as Diana of Themyscira, the film is directed by Patty Jenkins.

After we admired the casting, costumes and inevitable action shots from the first trailer released at San Diego’s Comic Con back in June, the follow-up seems to give us a bit more insight into the plot of the film.

The setting of the trailer sees Diana transition from her home on Themyscira to the battlegrounds of World War I, utilizing her mythical powers to help stop “the war to end all wars.” Wonder Woman vows multiple times during the teaser to do all that she can to help defend and save the world. But who exactly is she up against?

That question may have finally started to become clearer, as Danny Huston, who has not been officially labeled in his character role, is visible in the trailer as what seems to be a German general. On the other hand, any fan of the comic series will tell you that Ares, the God of War, has classically been Wonder Woman’s arch rival, and Huston is known for playing the role of the villain.

In the second trailer, right at the 1:00 minute mark, Huston can be heard eerily plotting, “the world can be ours.” Then during the action shot at 1:54-1:58, Wonder Woman is seen using her iconic golden lasso, and fighting Huston’s character one-on-one.

Whether or not Huston will double as Ares, or as fans have proposed, actual historical figure German general Erich Ludendorff, the objective of Wonder Woman is clear: completely halt the horrors of war.
