Update: You can carry up to five ecstasy pills and not face prosecution at this music festival

CORRECTION: Amsterdam Dance Event organizers are not responsible for the drugs policy during Amsterdam Dance Event. The Amsterdam policy for all dance events was updated last June, drafted by the city of Amsterdam with input from organizers of dance events and other experts. The updated policy is founded on the notion that drugs are illegal and therefore not allowed on events. and it is up to the public prosecutor to decide to press charges; the original story has been updated to reflect this update in Amsterdam policy.

Drugs are a growing issue within the EDM community. Amsterdam is attempting to aid the issue with an updated drug policy that uses a more tolerant approach as a methord to curb drug use, focusing on offenders in possession of more than five pills of popular EDM drug ecstasy. However, Amsterdam Dance Event will continue to search attendees for drugs such as ecstasy, and offenders will be required to forfeit their drugs and leave festival grounds. [Photo via ConsequenceOfSound]

As Live For Live Music reports, Amsterdam VVD chairman Marja Ruigrok doesn’t think highly of the move. “It is strange that we are so much more generous in Amsterdam in that policy,” she said. “I find five pills too much for one person. You could perhaps be well off with just one. But we actually believe that you should not do it at all. It is dangerous, you do not know what it contains. It is forbidden.”
