The mashup king is at it again. In his typical style of defying genre barriers, YUNGBLUD just fused Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You” with Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan.” It’s the combination nobody asked for, but we all secretly needed it.
Backed by a string section, the British alt musician presented the medley on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Tuesday. It’s a softer take than his past performances on the channel, which makes it all that much more poignant.
“Playing the Live Lounge was always a massive dream of mine. I used to have the CDs as a kid,” YUNGBLUD told BBC in August. “To do it last year was so insane, but this time I have eight months of repressed energy and a whole lot of fire to get out. So bring your petrol!”
While we can’t say that his cover screams “repressed energy,” it certainly seems to showcase the raw emotion and vulnerability that he’s capable of. Seriously, just try to watch it without tearing up a little bit.
Of course, fans were quick to express their delight with the rendition via Twitter.

I didn't know just how much I needed this cover until you did it. Amazing how well the two songs go together.
