YUNGBLUD proves “Parents” ain’t always right in new song

It’s been quite an eventful week in the world of YUNGBLUD. Theories sparked following the sudden appearance of a hotline number plastered across the world, suggesting everything from graphic novel-related teasing to a new song.

Three days worth of cryptic stories pointed fans to May 24, and after confirming the new track today, we finally get to hear “Parents.”

The first recorded story matched up with live videos of YUNGBLUD performing the unreleased track during his spring U.S. run.

That wasn’t the only reappearance as the teacher and preacher from story No. 2 and the toaster incident from story No. 3 were also mentioned in the song.

“Parents” marks his third release this year following “Loner” in January and Halsey/Travis Barker collab “11 Minutes” in February.

YUNGBLUD co-wrote “Parents” with Justin Tranter (Julia Michaels, Fall Out Boy). He also teamed up with producers Zakk Cervini (Good Charlotte, Mayday Parade) and Chris Greatti (Grimes, Black Veil Brides) again having previously worked with them on “11 Minutes.”

As for the track’s concept, YUNGBLUD carries on with his message of not allowing society to dictate how you live your life.

“‘Parents’ is a tribute to individualism,” he explains. “You are the best judge of how to become the best you. Don’t conform to the outside world’s perception of who you should be if it means losing yourself in the process.”

YUNGBLUD “Parents” lyrics

I was born in a messed up century
My favorite flavored sweets are raspberry amphetamines
I bought a carburetor age sixteen
I brush my teeth with bleach ‘cause I ain’t got time for cavities
My daddy put a gun to my head, said if you kiss a boy I’m gonna shoot you dead
So I tied him up with gaffer tape
And I locked him in a shed
Then I went out to the garden
And I fucked my best friend ‘cause my

High hopes are getting low because these people are so old
The way they think about it all
If I tried I would never know
High hopes are getting low
But I know I’ll never be alone
It’s alright, we’ll survive, ‘cause parents ain’t always right

Put a toaster in my bath watch my mum and dad laugh
See a thousand volts go through the son they wish they never had
They told me casual affection leads to sexual infection
But it’s hard to get an erection when you’re so used to rejection
Yeah the teacher fucked the preacher
Then he had to leave her
Had to wash away the sins
Of a male cheerleader
Hi, nice to meet ya, but nothing to believe in
So let me know when my breathing stops
‘Cause my

High hopes are getting low because these people are so old
The way they think about it all
If I tried I would never know
High hopes are getting low
But I know I’ll never be alone
It’s alright, we’ll survive, ‘cause parents ain’t always right

Tic, tock, stop the clock
Because I got the feeling that I’m gonna get shot
Tic, tock, stop the clock
Because I got the feeling that I’m gonna get shot my

High hopes are getting low because these people are so old
The way they think about it all
If I tried I would never know
High hopes are getting low
But I know I’ll never be alone
