‘Zombieland: Double Tap’ star tells how Deadpool caused sequel’s delay

Zombieland: Double Tap releases Oct. 18, more than a decade after the first Zombieland. Well, what was the holdup? Zombieland star Jesse Eisenberg blames Deadpool.

Well, his reasoning for blaming Ryan Reynolds‘ ‘merc with a mouth’ flick isn’t a beef with anyone in particular, but with the writers being so busy.

“We were trying to do the movie right after the first one ’cause the first one was so popular and then we just waited for the best script,” Eisenberg said while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“In the meantime, the two writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, did Deadpool and then we were waiting for them to finish that so they can write this. And we were all waiting, me, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, we’re all waiting for the best script and it finally came in.”

The writers previously addressed the time jump between the first and second films as well.

We can’t get upset with Deadpool, even though we’ve already encountered the film delaying things in the past.

Read the synopsis for the upcoming zombie flick below:

Through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, the Zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”

More Zombieland: Double Tap

Over the summer, we finally saw the original cast of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin return to their roles in the first official trailer.

The new red-band trailer shows the vulgar side of the band of misfits.

In January, we got our first poster for the film. Plus, the confirmation of a title featuring those four original cast members.

We also learned that new characters would be added, played by Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Zoey Deutch (Flower), Rosario Dawson (Jane the Virgin) and Luke Wilson (Old School).

Eisenberg confirmed that the film will pick up ten years later.

“It took ten years to make because we were just insistent that the script be great — which sounds like it should be obvious, but that’s not always the case,” Eisenberg explains.

“Because the movie is not only popular but also beloved, people feel like it has some personal resonance for them, so we wanted to make sure that it’s as good or better than the first, and it feels that way! We have two weeks left and it feels really great. Everything we’ve done feels very funny.”

Then, the film unveiled new posters. They show us even more about what the characters will be like a decade later.

You can see the new posters here.

Now, they’ve dropped the “more than just the F bomb trailer” that definitely lives up to its name. We see the dynamic between the survivors of the apocalypse and a sneak peek at some of the hilarious jokes that will be featured in the film to offset all the blood and gore.
