‘Zombieland’ sequel pushes back release date

We’ve waited 10 long years for the sequel to Zombieland, and apparently now we’ll have to wait just a little longer than we previously thought.

Back in March, we found out that the film, Zombieland: Double Tap,  was wrapping up shooting to gear up for an Oct. 11 release.

Now, we’ve found out that the film will actually make its theatrical debut on Oct. 18. It’s unclear why the date was moved, but at least it wasn’t pushed back too far.

Back in January, we got our first poster for the film along with the confirmation of a title. The poster features the original cast of Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin.

Zombieland: Double Tap decided to take part in some 2019 social media fun. The “10 year challenge” has been going on all over the internet, and the film couldn’t help but participate to debut the poster, especially because of the awkward time jump. The side-by-side is truly uncanny.

Also, back when we found out the film was done shooting, Eisenberg gave fans a few teasers about the sequel. He confirmed that the film will pick up ten years later, with our favorite characters making a home in the abandoned White House.

“It took ten years to make because we were just insistent that the script be great — which sounds like it should be obvious, but that’s not always the case,” Eisenberg explains.

“Because the movie is not only popular but also beloved, people feel like it has some personal resonance for them, so we wanted to make sure that it’s as good or better than the first, and it feels that way! We have two weeks left and it feels really great. Everything we’ve done feels very funny.”

When it comes to the 33-and-counting rules for the zombie apocalypse, Eisenberg reveals that there are still more rules to come.

“We try to think of them every day on set because, you know, we can add them now. When we did the first movie, we didn’t know if it was going to wind up actually in the movie, and now we’re, like, all desperate to create new rules because we think it’d be fun.”

The sequel is writen by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. If those names sound familiar, the two wrote the original Zombieland as well as the scripts for the Deadpool films. Ruben Fleischer will also be directing yet again.

Aside from the OG cast, the film is adding some new faces. Zoey Deutch will play Eisenberg’s love interest in the film.

Zombieland: Double Tap will premiere in theaters Oct. 18. We’re still waiting on a trailer for the film to drop.

Read the synopsis for the upcoming zombie flick below:

Through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, the Zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”
