Nickelback seriously wants to release a metal album

Nickelback seems to be everyone’s favorite band to hate. But the band has aspirations for themselves that lean a bit more hardcore—they want to make a metal album.

Bassist Mike Kroeger spoke to Wall of Sound about the band’s latest album Feed the Machine and how it’s a bit heavier. The publication asked if they would consider going any heavier, and he gushed about his love of metal.

“I would love to. Metal is what makes me go, it’s what I listen to without fail,” Kroeger said. “If we could actually sink in and do a metal album, all four of us would love it. I know that we’re all – on differing scales – metalheads at our core.”

He also gushed about the band’s extensive knowledge of metal bands.

“We all know everything about the Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer,” he said. “I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That’s where my heart lies.”

He also discussed how the band’s music is not a reflection of their actual music taste.

“I listen to bands like Meshuggah, Gojira, Lamb of God… and we became friends with those guys. Daniel [Adair, drums] and I nerd out on stuff they do, and as musicians we love to listen to it,” he said.

It’s not too off-the-wall that the band wants to do a metal record. Remember when they covered Metallica and it was actually so sick? If you don’t, you can check that out below.

If Nickelback puts out a metal record and it’s a banger, we will have to swallow our pride and declare our fandom.
